Over the summer 2010 we held the first Braunstone Club Championship for many a year. There were 12 players who entered the Club Championship and so they were split into two groups of six players. There were four matches to decide the winner of each section.

The Major section was a very tight contest going into the final round any one of four players could still win the competition. In the final round John managed to convert a queen verses rook and bishop endgame against Jim, whilst the other two results went his way as both Roy and Paul lost their games.

The Minor club championship was slightly marred by some defaults but Guy Closs was the clear favourite after winning his first two rounds against both Okash and Cyril. He completed a clean sweep to win the competition with four straight wins.

We held another Braunstone Quickplay in the summer which was open to outsiders from other clubs and we had players from Wigston, Spinney Hill and Syston join us. The competition was won by Jim Bingham with four points from five. It is hoped to run a similar club championship next summer before the start of the 2011 season.
