February Match Reports

There were convincing wins for our three teams involved in the league cups this month. The first team beat Loughborough convincingly by 4-1½ on handicap, to go top of the table. The second team beat Syston by 3-1½ on handicap to also top the table and the third team had a comprehensive 4½-1 victory over Latimer despite being outgraded on all 4 boards to move up to 4th in the table. Well done to everyone! Full results here. And here is Steve Barlow's match report:

Skipper Guy said before the match that we might not have the consistency for the league but naive enough players who can motivate themselves for a one-off cup match – but then he may have been talking about Leicester City.

Vinny lost after being an exchange up on Board 4. Steve won on Board 3 having claimed a central position and then won a piece towards the end. Guy knew that a draw in either of the last two games would secure the win. Roy, having been under the cosh on Board 1 for most of the game finally won as his opponent made an error in the end game. Guy then launched one final counter attack which got through and he won to give the team a victory.

Looking back on it Guy was definitely talking about Leicester City. Braunstone 4 are extremely consistent in the League!

Congratulations to Conor Reid who won his first league game for the club in the 5th team's 5-1 win away at Ashby on Thursday night. He is the youngest player to win a game for Braunstone since ........ well I'm not sure, but a long time! The first win of many I confidently predict.
